What Child Is This
Words by: William C. Dix (1865)
Music by: English Traditional 16th C.
What Child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The babe, the son of Mary.
So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh,
Come peasant king to own Him,
The King of kings, salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise the song on high,
The Virgin sings her lullaby:
Joy, joy, for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary!
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
Words by: John M. Neale (1851)
Music by: 15 C. French Melody
O come, o come Emmanuel
And randsom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee of Israel
O come, o come great Lord of might
Who to Thy tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times once gave the law
In cloud and majesty and awe
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee of Israel
O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee oh Israel
O come, O Dayspring, come and cheer
Their spirits by Thine advent here
And drive away the shades of night
And Pierce the clouds and bring them light
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee oh Israel
Silent Night
Words by: Joseph Mohr (1818)
Music by: Franz X. Gruber
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia
Christ the Savior is Born
Christ the Savior is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant bealms from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
